Ex-Detroit Pastor Sentenced for Sexual Assault

Kenneth Flowers, the former pastor of Greater New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, was sentenced to 4 to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy at his Farmington Hills home in December 2023. Flowers pleaded no contest in April to two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, while more serious charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping were dismissed through a plea agreement. As part of his sentence, Flowers must register with the Michigan Sex Offender Registry. The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office stated the sentence aims to provide justice for the courageous victim. Once a prominent community and human rights activist, Flowers' conviction marks a dramatic fall from grace. He was taken into custody immediately after sentencing and declined to make a statement in court.
