Murder Suspect Re-Arrested After Clerical Release
Ty Sage, 26, who was indicted in May on second-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the 2021 fatal shooting of 15-year-old Lowgunn Ivey, was mistakenly released from the Multnomah County Detention Center on Sept. 22 after a release form showing $5,000 bail was processed despite a judge’s no-bail order. The erroneous release prompted a multi-day manhunt and public apologies from Multnomah County Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell. Sage was re-arrested without force on Sept. 25 at a gas station off U.S. Highway 101 in Florence with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and will be booked on a no-bail hold. The sheriff’s office launched an internal inquiry and a preliminary review found detention staff misinterpreted the court order and acted in good faith. Victims’ family members said the mistaken release caused fear and trauma and expressed relief at Sage’s recapture while criticizing the county’s handling.
