India, Sri Lanka Sign Key Defense Pact During Modi's Historic Visit

During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Sri Lanka, India and Sri Lanka signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defense Cooperation, emphasizing their intertwined security interests. Modi's visit, the first since 2019, also included the formalization of seven agreements covering energy, infrastructure, and economic recovery, notably the development of Trincomalee as an energy hub and the inauguration of the Sampur Solar Power Project. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake assured that Sri Lanka would not allow its territory to be used against India's security interests, reinforcing commitments to regional stability. Modi highlighted India's long-standing support for Sri Lanka during its challenging times, including economic crises and militant attacks.
