His parents, Nytavia Ragsdale and Laron Modlin, have been arrested and charged with manslaughter, with accusations from family members that the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) failed to act on prior reports of abuse and neglect. The boy's family is planning to file a $40 million lawsuit against the city, alleging ACS's negligence contributed to his death. Advocates and family members claim the agency was aware of Jahmeik's living conditions but did not provide adequate intervention. ACS has acknowledged the situation and stated they are reviewing their practices in light of the tragedy. A funeral for Jahmeik is scheduled for October 29.
