Coventry University Student Convicted of Baby's Murder

Jia Xin Teo, a 22-year-old Malaysian student at Coventry University, has been convicted of murdering her newborn baby by hiding her in a cereal box inside a suitcase. Teo concealed her pregnancy and gave birth alone on March 4, placing the living baby in the box and later denying the birth when questioned by hospital staff. Despite claiming to hear voices instructing her to harm the baby, her defense was rejected by the jury at Warwickshire Crown Court. Prosecutors argued that Teo had multiple opportunities to seek help but instead chose secrecy, resulting in the baby's death two days later. The Crown Prosecution Service emphasized that Teo's actions were deliberate and preventable, underscoring the complex nature of the case. Teo is set to be sentenced at a later date.
