Pregnant Mother, Unborn Child Killed in Baton Rouge Double Shooting

Kimberlyn Martin, a 29-year-old pregnant mother of three, was fatally shot at the Elevate at Highland apartment complex in Baton Rouge just days before her due date, resulting in the death of both her and her unborn daughter, Olivia. The shooting occurred around 8:45 a.m. Sunday morning, also injuring a man who was shot in the leg but is expected to survive. Police indicate the shooting was neither random nor domestic, and the investigation remains ongoing with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward. District Attorney Hillar Moore, who has previously criticized the apartment complex for a history of crime, was present at the scene but refrained from commenting until more details are available. The apartment complex, formerly known as The Hub, has undergone new management and was renamed Elevate at Highland following efforts to address prior criminal activity.
