Eli Lilly Expands Manufacturing in Ireland

Eli Lilly announced a $1.8 billion investment to expand its manufacturing footprint in Ireland. This includes a $1 billion expansion of its Limerick site, raising its total commitment there to $2 billion, to increase production of biologic active ingredients, such as those for its new Alzheimer's treatment, and an $800 million expansion at its Kinsale facility to meet the high demand for its diabetes and obesity treatments. These expansions are part of a broader strategy, with Lilly having committed over $20 billion since 2020 to enhance manufacturing capabilities in the US and Europe. The Limerick facility's investment is expected to create 150 jobs, increasing total employment to 450, and start production by 2026, pending approval. The Kinsale expansion aims to address shortages of blockbuster drugs like Mounjaro and Zepbound. These moves are expected to support the production of promising new treatments.
