Sutskever's Startup Plans $1B Funding, Expands Operations

Ilya Sutskever, co-founder and former chief scientist of OpenAI, is raising over $1 billion for his AI startup, Safe Superintelligence (SSI), with a valuation exceeding $30 billion. The funding round is led by Greenoaks Capital Partners, which is committing $500 million. This marks a significant increase from SSI's previous $5 billion valuation, reflecting rapid growth since its founding in June 2024. SSI, co-founded with Daniel Levy and Daniel Gross, aims to develop AI models that surpass human intelligence while maintaining alignment with human interests. The company is expanding its operations in Silicon Valley and Tel Aviv, yet it has not disclosed any technologies or products thus far. Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing for a new funding round for OpenAI, potentially valuing it at $300 billion, led by SoftBank Group.
