Waymo Expands Robotaxi Interest List on Uber in Austin

Uber has launched an 'interest list' feature in Austin, allowing users to express their desire to be matched with Waymo's autonomous vehicles when the service becomes available. This initiative is part of a partnership between Uber and Waymo aimed at rolling out robotaxi services in Austin and Atlanta by early 2025. Riders who opt in will be able to access Waymo's fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-Pace vehicles through the Uber app, with rides priced similarly to standard Uber services. Although Waymo currently offers limited rides to select early testers in Austin, the broader public launch is anticipated soon. Under the partnership, Uber will manage vehicle maintenance while Waymo oversees the autonomous technology and operations. The robotaxi service will cover a 37-square-mile area in Austin, including key neighborhoods and downtown.
