Bahamasair Resumes Flights to Cap-Haitien

Bahamasair has announced the resumption of flights to Cap-Haitien, Haiti, starting November 26, 2024, following a safety assessment by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that deemed the area safe for travel. This decision comes after a temporary suspension of flights due to security concerns involving gang violence and incidents of gunfire affecting U.S. airlines. The FAA now allows flights to six northern Haitian airports, but restrictions remain for Port-au-Prince due to ongoing violence. The situation in Haiti has deteriorated significantly since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021, with reports of over 20,000 people displaced and escalating gang activity. While Bahamasair is resuming operations, other airlines remain cautious, with continued flight cancellations to Haiti's capital. The Haitian National Police union has called for better resources to combat the rising insecurity in the country.
