Rapid City Woman Crashes SUV Into Police Precinct
A Rapid City woman, 36-year-old Kelsey Herrald, allegedly lost control of a 2002 GMC Yukon around 3:30 a.m. and crashed into the Rapid City Police Department’s southwest precinct at Catron Boulevard and Sheridan Lake Road, causing extensive damage while the building was unoccupied. Herrald was ejected from the vehicle, treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, recorded a preliminary breath test of .217, and was arrested on suspicion of second-offense DUI, no insurance and driving without a valid license. Police posted photos of the damage, urged people to plan sober rides home, and are asking anyone with information to come forward. Separately, in North London a 67-year-old woman walking in Wolves Lane, Wood Green, was struck by a car and taken to hospital while a 66-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and remains in custody; the pedestrian’s condition is unconfirmed. Authorities cited South Dakota’s high drunken-driving arrest rate and national alcohol-related crash statistics to underscore the broader dangers of driving under the influence.
