Imelda Staunton to Star in Mrs Warren's Profession

Dame Imelda Staunton and her daughter Bessie Carter will perform together for the first time in a West End revival of George Bernard Shaw's 'Mrs Warren's Profession', which runs from May 10 to August 16, 2025, at the Garrick Theatre. Bessie, known for her role in 'Bridgerton', plays Vivie, a Cambridge graduate who discovers her mother Kitty, portrayed by Staunton, has made her fortune from running brothels. The play, originally banned in 1902 for its provocative themes, explores societal double standards and the choices women make for survival. Director Dominic Cooke expressed his excitement at collaborating with Staunton again, noting the play's enduring impact and relevance. Staunton described returning to the stage as a 'treat' and emphasized the play's exploration of women's roles in society. Full casting details are yet to be announced, but early ticket sales are expected in 2025.
