ADL Study Reveals Job Market Discrimination Against Jews
A recent study by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reveals substantial discrimination against Jewish and Israeli Americans in the U.S. job market. Findings indicate that Jewish Americans must submit 24% more job applications than their Western European counterparts to receive the same number of positive responses, while Israeli Americans face an even greater hurdle, requiring 39% more applications. The study, led by economist Bryan Tomlin, utilized a field experiment involving 3,000 job applications with identical résumés differing only in name to gauge employer responses. ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt emphasized the need for employers to address anti-Jewish and anti-Israeli biases, highlighting the study as groundbreaking evidence of systemic discrimination. This research provides empirical data supporting concerns regarding the trickle-down effects of rising antisemitism into the labor market, which has been largely anecdotal until now. The ADL hopes that these findings will prompt serious discussions about workplace discrimination and lead to actionable changes.
