Chicago Cubs Invite Top Prospects to 2025 Spring Training

The Chicago Cubs have announced their list of 20 non-roster invitees for Major League Spring Training, which includes top prospect Matt Shaw, ranked 19th on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100. Shaw, who was the Cubs' first-round pick in 2023, aims to compete for the starting third-base position after a standout minor league season where he hit .284 with 21 home runs. Other notable invitees include James Triantos and catcher Moises Ballesteros, with Triantos also being a strong prospect at 73rd in the rankings. The training camp will kick off on February 9, with pitchers and catchers first reporting, followed by full-squad workouts later that month. The Cubs are hopeful that these young players will benefit from the experience around veterans, even if they may not make the Opening Day roster. Additionally, Brandon Birdsell, a right-handed pitcher drafted in 2022, is anticipated to also join the camp after a solid minor league performance in 2024.
