The Washington Commanders released kicker Cade York after a disappointing performance in their season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he missed two field goals and had a kickoff go out of bounds. The trade condition with the Cleveland Browns, which required York to play two games for a seventh-round pick, will not be met. York, a fourth-round pick by the Browns in 2022, struggled in his rookie season and has since been waived by multiple teams. The Commanders plan to sign veteran kicker Austin Seibert, who has an 80% field goal accuracy rate and was also previously with the Browns. The Commanders have been cycling through kickers since releasing Brandon McManus in June. Head Coach Dan Quinn indicated the team will decide on a new kicker soon.
