Texas, Alabama Consider Significant Hemp Regulation Bills

Texas lawmakers are currently debating several bills that could significantly impact the hemp industry in the state. Senate Bill 3 (SB3) proposes a ban on all cannabinoids except CBD and CBG, while House Bill 28 (HB28) seeks to prohibit the manufacture and sale of most hemp products, including smokable hemp and edibles, although it allows hemp-infused beverages with a THC limit. The public hearing on these bills drew considerable opposition from hemp advocates, who argue that such restrictions could devastate the industry and limit consumer access to safe products. Additionally, a contrasting proposal, House Bill 4242, aims to establish a regulatory framework for hemp sales and distribution, although it has yet to be scheduled for a hearing.
