Amazon Launches Alexa+ Featuring Agentic AI

Amazon has unveiled Alexa+, a new version of its voice assistant that integrates generative artificial intelligence (AI) to create more natural and interactive user experiences. Announced on February 26, Alexa+ will allow users to execute complex multi-step tasks autonomously, such as booking services and handling online orders, without needing constant prompts. Additionally, Amazon has formed a new group dedicated to developing agentic AI, led by AWS executive Swami Sivasubramanian, with the aim of positioning this technology as a significant new revenue stream for the company. AWS CEO Matt Garman highlighted the potential for agentic AI to become a multi-billion dollar business, reflecting Amazon's confidence in its innovation capabilities. Alexa+ will be rolled out in phases beginning in March, with features that include deeper ecommerce integration and advanced personalization. This upgrade is expected to change the landscape of voice technology and its applications in smart homes and ecommerce.
