Two Police Officers Injured in Berlin Explosion
Two police officers were injured, one seriously, in an explosion near the fence of a police building in Berlin's Wittenau district during a routine patrol on January 2. The explosion, attributed to an unidentified object, occurred around 8:20 PM, causing significant facial and eye injuries to one officer and sonic trauma to the other. Both officers received medical treatment, and the criminal police have launched an investigation into the incident. This event follows a particularly violent New Year's Eve in Germany, where 30 officers were injured, one seriously, by illegal fireworks, and five individuals died during the celebrations. Police have not confirmed whether the explosion was related to fireworks or another cause. A spokesperson for the police declined to provide additional details when queried by media outlets.
