BARD Promotes Reading Culture Among Students

A recent event organized by the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development aimed to revive the culture of reading among youth, countering the decline attributed to technology and short attention spans. Over 650 students participated in 'Gaachher Chhayay Paather Ashor', enjoying books amidst nature, reflecting a desire to foster a knowledgeable society less reliant on gadgets. Concurrently, Ensemble Scholastica is set to perform medieval chant in Montreal, drawing from McGill's collection of medieval manuscripts, emphasizing the challenges of authentically recreating medieval music. This season, literary discussions also highlight Thomas Mann's 'The Magic Mountain', exploring its relevance in a divided contemporary society. Further interest in medieval studies is seen in Estonia and at UCLA, where reading groups encourage engagement with medieval texts, aiming to make the genre accessible and enjoyable for all. Collectively, these initiatives indicate a revival of interest in both literature and historical contexts amidst modern distractions.
