Senator Ray Holmberg

Ray Holmberg, an 80-year-old former North Dakota state senator, pleaded guilty in federal court to traveling to Europe with the intent to engage in sexual activities with minors. Holmberg's plea follows a federal indictment from October 2023, which included charges of illicit sexual activity and possession of child sexual abuse materials. Under a plea agreement, he will receive a lesser sentence recommendation from prosecutors, with the travel charge potentially carrying up to 30 years in prison. Holmberg admitted to making multiple trips to Prague from 2011 to 2016 for commercial sex with underage individuals. Despite conditions of release, including location monitoring, he has violated several terms, including unauthorized internet access and alcohol use. A federal judge will determine his sentencing at a later date.
