OpenAI DevDay Unveils Agents, SDKs, and Risks
At its DevDay, OpenAI rolled out developer‑focused upgrades — Apps inside ChatGPT with an SDK, AgentKit/ChatKit, Codex for software automation, and API improvements — positioning chatbots as platform‑like “super assistants” with wide integration surfaces. Agentic AI is presented as a way to boost productivity and help address critical talent shortages in complex fields such as semiconductor design by autonomously taking initiative across engineering tasks. The OpenID Foundation warned that increasingly capable agents with escalating access to corporate resources create systemic identity, access and security risks unless the industry adopts interoperable, AI‑specific IAM standards and extends governance practices. Large infrastructure commitments (including Oracle/OpenAI partnerships and continued NVIDIA and AMD involvement) underscore a scramble for full‑stack control from silicon to software and may accelerate market concentration. Together, richer app ecosystems and deep third‑party integrations create business and developer opportunities while amplifying concerns about competition, resilience, and the need for coordinated safety and regulatory responses.
