Nationals Place Keibert Ruiz on 10-Day Injured List After Head Contusion

Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz was placed on the 10-day injured list with a head contusion after being struck by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Josh Bell during a game against the San Diego Padres. Ruiz was hit while in the dugout and immediately received medical attention before being replaced by Riley Adams. He underwent a CT scan at a hospital and, despite the injury, is not in the league's concussion protocol. Ruiz had been hitting .247/.278/.320 this season with two home runs and 24 RBIs before the injury. Adams will serve as the primary catcher for at least the next 10 days while Ruiz recovers. Ruiz is expected to return once eligible from the injured list.
