Trainer Mohamed Ramadan Banned for Six Years
Mohamed Ramadan, a horse racing trainer in the UAE, has been banned from the sport for six years after two horses in his care were found in severe distress during an unannounced inspection by the Emirates Racing Authority (ERA). He received ten charges, pleading guilty to all, with the ERA highlighting the need to uphold the integrity of racing. Mutamaasik and Shmshan, the two horses, were reported to be in 'unacceptable' conditions, with Mutamaasik suffering from painful lesions and blistering without pain relief, while Shmshan was emaciated and required urgent care. Ramadan was fined £1,000 and will not be eligible to return to racing until September 2030. In a separate case, trainer Shark Hanlon's 10-month suspension for transporting a dead horse in public view has been reduced to six months, with a potential further reduction to three months. The appeals panel noted that while Hanlon's conduct was negligent, it differed from previous cases involving more deliberate disrespect towards deceased horses.
