Ten Charged with Attempted Murder in Texas ICE Ambush
Ten individuals identified as Antifa members have been charged with attempted murder after allegedly ambushing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the Prairieland ICE Detention Facility in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4. The assailants reportedly used fireworks and graffiti with derogatory terms to lure unarmed ICE correctional officers outside before opening fire, with one Alvarado police officer being shot in the neck but surviving. Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson described the incident as a planned ambush with the intent to kill ICE officers, emphasizing it was not a peaceful protest but an egregious attack. The suspects were heavily armed with AR-style rifles, pistols, body armor, radios, and other tactical gear, and searches of their homes recovered additional firearms and anarchist propaganda materials. The ten charged face multiple counts including attempted murder and discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, with possible sentences ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment; an 11th individual faces obstruction of justice charges. Authorities highlighted this attack as part of an increasing trend of violence against federal and local law enforcement officers, and some suspects identify as transgender.
