Sifan Hassan, Letsile Tebogo Named World Athletes of the Year

Dutch athlete Sifan Hassan and Botswana's Letsile Tebogo were honored as the World Athletes of the Year by World Athletics at the 2024 awards ceremony in Monaco. Hassan's remarkable achievements at the Paris Olympics included winning gold in the marathon and two bronze medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m events, making her the first woman to win three medals in distance events at a single Olympics. Tebogo made history as the first African to win the Olympic gold in the 200m, finishing in a record time of 19.46 seconds. Other notable awards included Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone for women's track and Mondo Duplantis for men's field. Additionally, Tamirat Tola was recognized in the men's out of stadium category for his marathon victory. The event highlighted the extraordinary performances of athletes who set new standards in athletics during the year.
