The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has settled a wrongful-death lawsuit by agreeing to pay $7.2 million to the family of firefighter Tory Carlon, who was shot and killed by co-worker Jonathan Tatone at Fire Station 81 in Agua Dulce on June 1, 2021. Carlon's widow, Heidi, alleged that county officials were aware of Tatone's dangerous behavior prior to the incident. In addition to Carlon's death, the shooting also injured Fire Capt. Arnoldo Sandoval, who received a settlement of nearly $2.6 million last year. The family’s attorney, Thomas Johnston, expressed gratitude for the resolution but emphasized that it cannot replace Carlon. L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger honored Carlon's memory and acknowledged the lasting pain of his loss. The settlement was recommended to avoid further litigation costs amid uncertainties in court.
