Police Launch Hate Crime Probe After Pride Flags Removed on Isle of Arran
Police on the Isle of Arran are investigating the removal of LGBTQ Pride decorations, including flags and banners, from Main Street in Brodick as a hate crime. The decorations were taken down overnight between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. ahead of the Arran Pride parade, with some flags reportedly found dumped on a nearby beach. Sergeant Clare Neilson of Arran Police has urged anyone with information or CCTV footage to come forward, emphasizing that the investigation is being taken very seriously and positive lines of inquiry are being pursued. Despite the incident, the Pride parade proceeded as scheduled, featuring various community activities and celebrations. Organizers expressed their disappointment but remain committed to making the event more vibrant and inclusive this year. This investigation reflects ongoing efforts to protect LGBTQ rights and address hate crimes in the region.
