Shubman Gill Set to Lead India vs England
Following the Test retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill is set to be named India's new Test captain for the five-match series against England beginning June 20. Jasprit Bumrah has ruled himself out of captaincy consideration due to workload management, stating he cannot play all five Tests. Vice-captaincy candidates include Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. Former players such as Saba Karim support Gill's appointment, while Navjot Singh Sidhu urges that Gill should remain as an opener if he leads the team. Veteran pacers Mohammed Shami and Shreyas Iyer are likely to be omitted from the squad over fitness and form concerns. Head coach Gautam Gambhir emphasized that retirement is a personal decision and expects the new generation to lead the team forward.
