Dutch runner Maureen Koster hospitalized after fall at European Indoor Championships
During the women's 3000m final at the 2025 European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, Dutch athlete Maureen Koster suffered a severe fall after tangling with two British runners, resulting in her hitting her head on the track and losing consciousness. Medical staff attended to Koster immediately, and she was transported to a hospital, where it was later confirmed by the Dutch federation that she was conscious and responsive. The incident caused significant concern among competitors and fans, including King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, as the race continued around her. Fellow competitor Melissa Courtney-Bryant, who finished second, expressed her distress over Koster's fall, highlighting their close friendship and shared training history. Koster later reassured her followers via social media that she was recovering from a mild concussion and bruises. The race concluded with Ireland's Sarah Healy winning gold, while Koster's unfortunate accident overshadowed the event.
