Bus Carrying Students Crashes Into River in Eastleigh
A double-decker bus carrying Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students crashed into the River Itchen in Eastleigh, Hampshire, injuring at least 17 people. Emergency services, including five ambulances, two helicopters, and specialist units, responded swiftly, with three individuals hospitalized and about 14 others treated at the scene for minor injuries. All passengers were safely removed from the bus, which came to rest upright in the shallow river. Bishopstoke Road was closed as authorities conducted investigation and recovery operations, and an incident centre for parents was established at The Hub in Bishopstoke. College staff are working closely with police to ensure student safety, and parents have been urged not to visit the crash site. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, and the public is asked to avoid the area.
