Brazil's Supreme Court has lifted the ban on the social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, following the platform's compliance with local laws regarding misinformation and hate speech. The court's decision, announced by Justice Alexandre de Moraes, comes after X paid significant fines totaling approximately $5.5 million, blocked accounts accused of spreading misinformation, and appointed a local legal representative. Initially resistant to the court’s rulings, Musk's reversal appears pragmatic, aimed at maintaining access to a major market with over 21 million users. The ban had been in place since late August, significantly impacting X's operations in Brazil. This resolution marks the end of a lengthy legal standoff between Musk and Brazilian authorities, who had criticized X for failing to adhere to regulations.
