Vietnamese Woman Sentenced Life Imprisonment Murder Boyfriend Ang Mo Kio Singapore

Nguyen Ngoc Giau, a 43-year-old Vietnamese national and Singapore permanent resident, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of her boyfriend, Cho Wang Keung, in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. On July 15, 2021, she fatally stabbed Cho outside his flat after suspecting he had been drinking with a beer promoter. Despite her defense arguing she was too intoxicated to form intent and that the death resulted from a sudden fight, the court rejected these claims, ruling that she acted with calculated intent. The judge emphasized that her intoxication did not prevent her from forming the intention to inflict fatal wounds and that there was no evidence of a sudden fight. The couple had a troubled relationship, frequently arguing and escalating conflicts, especially after Cho decided to break up and evict her. Nguyen expressed a desire to appeal the verdict, which was delivered after a trial beginning in April 2025.
