Knife attack in Mulhouse kills one, injures five officers

A knife attack in Mulhouse, eastern France, resulted in one death and several injuries, prompting President Emmanuel Macron to label it an act of 'Islamist terrorism.' The assailant, a 37-year-old Algerian man, was on a terror watchlist and had previously been convicted for advocating terrorism. During the attack, which occurred while police officers were monitoring a demonstration, he shouted 'Allahu Akbar' and targeted the officers, resulting in serious injuries to two and minor injuries to three others. The attack left a 69-year-old passerby dead after he tried to intervene. Macron emphasized the government's commitment to eradicating terrorism and expressed condolences to the victims' families. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau is set to visit the scene as investigations continue.
