Boat Explosion in Fort Lauderdale Injures 11
A boat explosion in Fort Lauderdale on Memorial Day at around 5:45 p.m. injured 11 people, including two children, most of whom suffered significant burns. The incident occurred near the New River Triangle and Lauderdale Yacht Club as the boat was fueling near a sandbar, with a possible gas leak believed to have ignited the fire. Surveillance footage captured a fireball and passengers being thrown into the water, after which bystanders and emergency responders assisted in their rescue. All 13 people on board were accounted for, and the injured were hospitalized, with most transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Burn Unit; one adult has since been released. The U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies are investigating the cause of the explosion. The identities of those involved have not been released.
