DNA Test Solves 27-Year-Old Baby Garnet Case

A TikToker's Ancestry DNA test led to the arrest of her grandmother, solving the 27-year-old Baby Garnet murder mystery. Jenna Rose Gerwatowski, 23, took the test out of curiosity, but her DNA matched that of a 1997 cold case involving a newborn found in an outhouse in Michigan. The investigation, reopened by Michigan State Police, revealed that the baby was directly related to Jenna's mother, identifying her grandmother, Nancy Gerwatowski, as the suspect. Nancy, who admitted to being the mother of the deceased infant, was charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, and concealing a death. Prosecutors claim the baby could have survived if medical help had been sought. In October 2023, Nancy was released on a personal recognizance bond with GPS monitoring while awaiting trial.
