Google's Veo 2 Launches to Challenge OpenAI's Sora

Google has launched its Veo 2 AI video generation tool to Gemini Advanced subscribers, allowing the creation of eight-second videos from text prompts in 720p resolution. This rollout is part of Google's strategy to enhance its generative AI capabilities and compete with OpenAI's Sora and other emerging platforms. Veo 2 is integrated into the Gemini app, and Google plans to introduce a freemium version, potentially widening access while maintaining certain usage restrictions. The tool is also available through Whisk, an experimental app, enabling users to animate images into videos. Google embeds a digital watermark, SynthID, in each frame to signify AI-generation, amidst concerns about the impact on creative industries. The service is priced at $20 per month under Google's premium AI plan, with limitations on video creation capped monthly.
