The Social Reckoning Set for October 9, 2026
Sony Pictures has set Aaron Sorkin’s follow-up to The Social Network, titled The Social Reckoning, for wide release on October 9, 2026. Sorkin wrote the screenplay, will direct and produce the film, with producers Todd Black, Peter Rice and Stuart Besser, and production is expected to begin soon. The cast includes Jeremy Strong as an older Mark Zuckerberg, Mikey Madison as whistleblower Frances Haugen, Jeremy Allen White as Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, and Bill Burr in a supporting role. The screenplay draws on the 2021 "Facebook Files" reporting about Meta’s awareness of harms to teens and the role of its platforms in spreading misinformation and political violence — reporting Meta has called a "mischaracterization." The project replaces David Fincher as director (Jesse Eisenberg will not return as Zuckerberg) and is being positioned for an awards-season release, reflecting Sorkin’s stated urgency after events including Jan. 6 in exploring Facebook’s societal impact.
