Universal Music Group Moves New York Headquarters to Penn 2 Manhattan
Universal Music Group (UMG) announced plans to relocate its New York headquarters to the newly redeveloped Penn 2 building in Manhattan’s Penn District, adjacent to Madison Square Garden. Under a 22-year lease, UMG will occupy the entire fourth through seventh floors, totaling 336,000 square feet, which is a significant expansion from its current 242,505-square-foot office. The new space will serve as the East Coast hub for UMG’s major labels including Def Jam Recordings, Island Records, Mercury Records, Republic Records, and the Verve Label Group, as well as its merchandise division Bravado and Universal Music Publishing Group. The building will also feature state-of-the-art music studios, a future premium retail space dedicated to music superfans, and large-scale LED signage to showcase artists. Located within a vibrant area called The Bustle, the headquarters will include expansive, column-free office space and outdoor landscaped areas, enhancing UMG’s creative and corporate functions. This move is expected to be completed by 2027, reflecting UMG’s ambition to establish a central nexus for employees, artists, and songwriters in a prime Midtown Manhattan location.
