Southampton, Cambridge Launch Camera Enforcement for Bus Gate Violations

Southampton City Council is set to begin enforcement of a new bus/taxi/cycle only section on Portswood Road starting February 10, following reports of non-compliance by motorists. Initially, drivers will receive warning letters for passing the restriction; repeat offenders will face a £70 penalty charge notice. The council observed a drop in vehicle traffic and an increase in pedestrian activity since the implementation of the trial. Meanwhile, in Cambridge, the Mill Road bridge bus gate restrictions have also moved into a warning phase, with fines expected to commence next month. Cambridgeshire County Council has begun issuing warning notices to non-exempt vehicles, emphasizing the need for drivers to adjust to the restrictions. Both councils aim to improve road safety, public transport efficiency, and encourage local spending through these measures.
