Georgia Man Arrested for 2006 Wife Murder After Fleeing with Nanny

Jon Worrell, a Georgia man, was arrested nearly 20 years after the 2006 murder of his wife, Doris Worrell, at their family business, Jon's Sports Park. Initially considered a grieving husband and the death thought to be a robbery gone wrong, investigations revealed Jon's marital issues and an affair with the then-teenage live-in nanny, which led him to allegedly plot his wife's murder to avoid losing custody of their children. After Doris was shot, Jon fled the U.S. with the nanny to Costa Rica, where they raised the children until their relationship ended. The case was reopened when the nanny began cooperating with authorities, providing key evidence that led to Jon's arrest in Missouri. Earlier charges against two conspirators were dropped due to lack of evidence, and the nanny was deported and later reunited with the family in Costa Rica before the breakup. Authorities emphasize that despite the long delay, justice is being pursued with renewed vigor.
