Explosion Injures Three, Evacuates 14 Homes in Halifax
A massive explosion occurred just after midnight in the Coventry Street/Spring Hall Grove area of Halifax, causing severe damage to at least six homes and injuring three people, two of whom were seriously hurt. The blast was powerful enough to rip the roof off one house, send debris into the street, and shake nearby homes, prompting the evacuation of 14 residences. Witnesses described the explosion as resembling "a nuclear bomb going off," with flames and multiple smaller explosions following the initial blast. Firefighters from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service deployed five crews along with a technical rescue and command unit to extinguish the fire using large jets and an aerial ladder. Emergency services, including police and ambulance teams, responded promptly, and the road was closed as investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing. Northern Gas Networks confirmed their engineers are working with emergency services at the scene to address the incident.
