Israel Blocks Return of Northern Gaza Residents

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that they will not allow residents of the northern Gaza Strip to return home, as part of a strategy reportedly linked to the controversial 'generals' plan' aimed at clearing the area for military purposes. Brigadier General Itzik Cohen claimed that there are 'no more civilians left' in northern Gaza, thus humanitarian aid would not be permitted there, although it would be allowed in the south. Humanitarian law experts have condemned these actions, suggesting they amount to war crimes, including forcible transfer and the weaponization of food. Reports indicate that around 100,000 people, including many children, remain in northern Gaza, facing dire conditions amid ongoing military operations. Rights groups assert that despite denials from the Israeli government, the military is actively implementing a strategy to depopulate northern Gaza. As of now, the UN and various sources report significant civilian casualties and destruction in the region, with the situation described as the worst yet since the conflict escalated in October 2023.
