AAA Reports Lower Labor Day Travel Costs Nationwide
As Labor Day weekend approaches, many Americans are planning one last summer vacation with travel costs generally lower than last year, according to AAA data. Domestic flights are about 6% cheaper, domestic hotel prices have dropped by 11%, and car rentals are around 3% less expensive, while international flights have increased by 8% and international hotel prices have decreased slightly by 2%. Popular U.S. destinations for the holiday include Seattle, Orlando, New York City, Boston, Denver, and Atlanta, with international travelers favoring cities like Vancouver, Barcelona, London, and Paris. Gas prices have also fallen, with averages not seen since 2021, making road trips more affordable, though AAA advises travelers to depart early to avoid traffic and to prepare cars properly for the journey. AAA also recommends using travel advisors and AAA membership discounts to maximize savings during the holiday travel rush. Additionally, car rental demand peaks on Friday, August 29, especially in cities like Orlando and Denver.
