Amnesty International Accuses Israel of Genocide

Amnesty International has published a report accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, claiming that the legal threshold for genocide has been met due to the scale and intent of its military actions since the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack, which killed 1,200 Israelis. The report, which involved extensive research and interviews, states that over 44,400 Palestinians have died as a result of Israel's military campaign, and about 90% of Gaza's population has been displaced. Amnesty's secretary general, Agnès Callamard, emphasized that Israel's actions represent a systematic intent to destroy the Palestinian population in Gaza. In contrast, Israeli officials have rejected these allegations, asserting that their military operations comply with international law and are aimed at eradicating Hamas. The report calls for global accountability and UN sanctions against Israel, while the issue of genocidal intent remains a contentious point in ongoing legal discussions at the International Court of Justice.
