China, Brazil, Chile Strengthen Cooperation to Defend Global South Interests

China has recently strengthened its diplomatic and economic ties with Latin American countries, particularly Brazil and Chile, emphasizing cooperation and mutual support within the Global South. Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, with both leaders pledging to defend multilateralism, oppose protectionism, and enhance bilateral cooperation across sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and emerging technologies. They signed 20 agreements to boost trade and investment, including deals for Brazilian agricultural exports to China and initiatives aligning China's Belt and Road with Brazil's development strategies. China and Brazil also expressed a shared commitment to uphold international fairness, support dialogue on global conflicts such as the Ukraine crisis, and promote a more just and sustainable global order. Similarly, Xi urged Chile to deepen collaboration in agriculture, industrial investment, and green minerals, reinforcing solidarity among Global South nations. These efforts illustrate China's strategic push to build a community with a shared future for developing countries and to counter unilateralism and economic protectionism on the world stage.
