France Deports Gaza Student, Suspends Gaza Evacuations Over Antisemitic Posts
France has deported a Gazan student, Nour Attaalah, after discovering antisemitic social media posts calling for the killing of Jews, including a post featuring an image of Adolf Hitler. The student had arrived in France on a government scholarship to study at Sciences Po Lille but was expelled after her posts, which were made before entering France, were confirmed. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot declared that the student had no place in France and announced the suspension of all French-led evacuations of Gazans pending an investigation into how her social media activity was missed during security vetting. The incident has sparked political outrage, with French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau condemning the student as a promoter of Hamas propaganda and emphasizing that such individuals should not be allowed in the country. Sciences Po Lille condemned the posts as contradictory to their values and reiterated their stance against antisemitism and hatred. Despite the condemnation, Barrot also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling it inhumane and a scandal that must end immediately.
