Shane Hunt named 18th president of Cameron University, starts July 1

Cameron University has appointed Dr. Shane Hunt as its 18th president, effective July 1, 2025. Hunt, currently the Dean of the College of Business at Idaho State University, was selected from over 65 applicants, with his qualifications and fundraising success being highly regarded by the university's Board of Regents. He aims to enhance student life and ensure that the university's curriculum aligns with the needs of the local community. In a recent press briefing, Hunt expressed his commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial spirit at the university and preparing students for impactful careers in Southwest Oklahoma. His predecessor, Jari Askins, will continue to serve as interim president until Hunt's official start date. This leadership change follows the retirement of former President John McArthur after two decades at Cameron.
