Five individuals, including two doctors and Matthew Perry's personal assistant, have been charged in connection with the actor's fatal overdose of ketamine in October 2023. U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada stated that the defendants exploited Perry's addiction issues for profit, forming a 'broad underground criminal network' that supplied him with the drug. An autopsy revealed that Perry died from the 'acute effects' of ketamine, combined with other health issues, after receiving multiple injections from his assistant. The lead defendants, Dr. Salvador Plasencia and drug dealer Jasveen Sangha, have been implicated in falsely prescribing and distributing the substance. Investigations showed Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for depression, but the quantity found in his system was far beyond therapeutic levels. Several defendants have already pleaded guilty to drug charges, while others were arrested on Thursday, facing serious allegations of drug distribution linked to Perry's tragic death.
