Fashion for Good, Arvind Launch Near-Zero Textile Facility India

Fashion for Good and Arvind Limited have launched the Future Forward Factories India initiative targeting Tier 2 textile factories, which represent a significant portion of the industry's emissions and resource usage. The two-part project includes developing an open-source blueprint for sustainable manufacturing and constructing a pioneering facility in Gujarat that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 93% and conserve approximately 60 liters of water per kilogram of fabric. This facility, focused on cotton woven and knit production, is envisioned as the industry’s first near net-zero textile production hub. The initiative emphasizes both environmental impact and commercial viability, exploring subsidies and funding to bridge financial gaps for widespread adoption. Arvind’s vice chairman highlighted the importance of demonstrating these innovations in practice to mitigate risks and encourage replication across the supply chain. Fashion for Good's managing director described this moment as critical in the fashion industry's sustainability journey, aiming to catalyze concrete transformation rather than mere intentions.
