Violence Against Muslims Surges in India

Following the departure of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, there has been a significant rise in violence against both Hindus in Bangladesh and Muslims in India. Reports indicate that, since her exit, Hindu extremists have targeted Rohingya refugee camps in Delhi and slum dwellers, falsely accusing them of being Bangladeshi infiltrators. In Bangladesh, the Hindu minority has faced attacks on homes and temples, with the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance reporting incidents across numerous districts. The former chief justice of Bangladesh, Sinha, criticized the state’s laws that he believes disproportionately affect Hindus, arguing for a separation of state religion and secularism. The situation has also led to a surge in hate speech and calls for revenge in India, intensifying existing communal tensions.
